We are delighted to support this year’s International human rights film festival, dedicated to those people who are affected by or are fighting to end discrimination around the world. Albania passed an Anti-Discrimination Law in February 2010 but many of the people that the law aims to support are not yet feeling the benefits. More work is needed now, by the Government, civil society, ordinary citizens and the International Community, to make anti-discrimination a reality. Art and film can play an important role in that campaign, raising awareness and the need to deliver justice and opportunity for all.

There are thousands of disabled people in Albania who are able to live full and productive lives, but are prevented from doing so by outdated attitudes and discrimination. Some of the festival’s films tell the story of the role that people with disabilities can and should play in society. There are films by the late David Morris, a British disability expert and friend of Albania, who lead work on inclusion for London 2012 and championed disability issues in film and media globally. We are delighted that this edition of the film festival commemorates his films and his contribution in support of Albanian disabled participation in London 2012. We are proud to continue his legacy.
